  There is a secret version of Florence that only a few get to see — the city at dawn. While Piazzale Michelangelo is famous for its sunset crowds, arriving here first thing in the morning offers an entirely different experience. Recently, I captured a romantic couple photoshoot at sunrise, where the only witnesses to their love story were the historic skyline and the soft, waking sun.

As a Florence engagement photographer, I always highly recommend a sunrise photoshoot. The advantages of waking up early are unmatched:

• Empty Locations: You get the entire panoramic terrace almost completely to yourself, allowing for an intimate, relaxed atmosphere.
• Soft Morning Light: The sun rises right behind the hills, casting a gentle, pastel-pink and golden glow over the Duomo and the Arno River.
• Flattering Tones: This specific light is incredibly soft, minimizing harsh shadows and creating a dreamy, cinematic look for your portraits.

A Quiet Stroll Down Historic Staircases

After capturing the classic panoramic shots with the city view, we took a quiet walk down the historic stone steps leading toward San Niccolò. The empty streets, cool morning air, and fresh golden rays cutting through the alleyways provided a beautiful contrast to the wide-open views above. It is the perfect recipe for authentic lifestyle photography that feels completely natural and editorial.
